Roadtrip (Virginia)

Hello everybody, good to see you!

Our tour startet last Friday’s afternoon...we left Washington on the famous Route 66, our first destination was „Manassas“ to visit the battlefields there. In former times some great battles took place here, a lot of blood, men on horses and bullets...now, well, it’s a meadow, I wouldn’t describe it as the most interesting experience in my life.

THE route

In the evening we searched for a Motel in a place called „Fort Royal“ and, finally, checked in to„Quality-Inn“. A room for five is 120$ there, it doesn’t seem to be affected by the gas-prices.
Fort Royal is a stereotype like I’ve never seen before, do you know the city where the Gilmour-girls live (the two chicks talking crap all the time)? It was exactly like that!
So American

The next day was very exciting, we took the „Skyline-drive“ trough „Shendoah-national-park“. The street is on the top of a chain of hills and you have a great view on the countryside below.

View

After leaving this place of untouched nature (doesn’t this sound beautiful?) we wanted to see „Monticello“, the former residence of the third president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson. This building is inspired by the architecture of the Roman Empire, you can see it on the Nickel (5 cent).
Monticello

Some hours later, we arrived at Williamsburg, there we checked in to another motel. Then we went to an outlet-mall that we saw before, Nike-, Adidas-, Banana-Republic-factory stores, Parndorf is nothing compared to it.

The next morning started very historic: we visited Colonial Williamsburg, which is a totally rebuilt colonial city, even the people there were dressed like in former times.

A few minutes away the first British settlement on the new continent had been built: Jamestown. Some oldstyled ships can be seen there, and with a lot of fantasy you can imagine some British emperors dealing with Indians, giving them glass beads for 5000feet^2 (squarefeet...pfff)...or just shooting them.
where the Europeans came from...

The last destination was Hampton beach next to Atlantic-Sea, where we relaxed and jumped into the waves (we were so brave!!!).

After another 5 hours we finally arrived in Washington again (on the street next to the Pentagon), gave back the car and went back to NYC by bus again...see you soon
