Walk through the city

Hey all,

One of the best things of New York City: it's damn pretty easy to take awesome pictures! Just walk around the city, and release every once a while...see some results of that ;-)

Mum is in da hood! ;-)

Guys,

Last week, my mum and my stepdad have been for a visit in NYC. I was very happy to see them again, but, though my midterm exams and some work for college (yes, sometimes I have to do something for my study, too! ;-) ), it wasn't possible for me to spend the whole days with them. My mum was so glad to see her little boy again, and - yeah!!! - she brought some blackbread with her! :-) It was the first time since two months to eat not this strange kind of bread they use to sell here! The other's were so excited about it, guess it could have been offset equally against hash!

I showed them my hood, the college, we were on top of the Rockefeller Center, had brunch in Brooklyn, and my mum cooked for Hannes and me, sorry for all who don't speak German, but I can't translate it properly: faschierte Laibchen! :-) Maybe something like rissoles would describe it best, I guess...anyway, they were great! :-)

All in all it was a nice visit, and they totally enjoyed the city!

Columbus Day

Signore e signori, ciao tutti!

This post is closely linked to Italy...you will ask now: why?!
The U.S. celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in America...or his first sight on the Caribbean Islands...whatever. And C.C. was an Italian navigator, and explorer whose voyages across the Atlantic Ocean led to general European awareness of the American continents. (yes, this sentence is directly out of wikipdia)
In other words: without him, no exchange term in New York City! ;-)

Many New Yorkers and Italians in particular celebrate this mid-October holiday with - what else - a parade on the Fifth Avenue from 44th to 79th street. It wasn't that spectacular, but, however, college was off-class, and there was a big holiday sale in the stores.

NY Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Hi again!

This will be a good one!
Yesterday, Hannes, Peter, his parents (they are on a visit at the moment), and me have been in "the world's most famous arena" (that's what its homepage says ;-) ): The Madison Square Garden!
It was the setting of the NHL game between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
We were sitting on the 8th floor (!!!) of the Garden, which has a capacity of 18.200 (at Hockey games, if a NBA game is taking place there, it's even more, 19.763...approximately ;-) ). The tribunes were sold out, and nearly 20.000 Americans are able to be loud! Also during their national anthem...God bless America! ;)

But let's talk about the game: acctually, and it really hurts my feeling as a true life-long Rangers' fan to say this, ("We all bleed Ranger blue") the NY hockey pros didn't play very well. The consequence: after 2 of 3 sections the Penguins were leading 2:0 (Boo!)...even Prohaska knows the old sport's rule: Make it or get it!
Then the last section started, and how it started! Soon after the break the Rangers could score, 2:1...what was coming afterwards was a thriller. The Penguins concentrated on defending their lead, and this tactics seemed to work. In the last minute, even the Ranger's goalie, the fabulous Henrik Lundqvist, participated in his team's drives...and then, 8 seconds before the end, they scored, 2:2...watch the video what was going on afterwards!
The overtime was thrilling, and exciting, but nothing changed on the scoreboard...so it had to be decided by a shootout....that's what we wanted to see, hell yeah!
The first Ranger's try, the first miss...but the Penguin couldn't score either. Second round, same result. Then the third player, shoot, GOAL! The last try of the Penguins was storybook fended by Henrik Lundqvist...awesome...NYR rule! :-)
On the 16th of November, the NBA game NY Knicks - Dallas Mavericks is going to follow, until then: take care!
